It's on Hulu, based on Clavell's novel. Very cool.

The ratings are ridiculously good. I'm SO looking forward to binge-watching it after it's all out!

It's on both, but hereabouts there are combo plans because Disney bought Hulu.

too young to recall the 80s miniseries

"The novel was better." Just kidding. The 80s miniseries was excellent. It was a time of great ones. This version, however, is freer to be a bit more ... gory, on one hand, and much more interesting when it comes to the political story.

No Dmitri, I promise no spoilers. Then again, it's simply the story of an Englishman in feudal Japan. If you watched the complete 80s series, it wouldn't make a difference.

Nah, not terribly worried about spoilers in a series like this; it's more like "the journey, not the destination" type, to me.

If a story is harmed by spoilers it wasn't much of a story to begin with.

Yes, I know what the story is already. What I don't know is how it's told.

I watched Sixth Sense in the theater with someone who said he guessed it nearly immediately. Luckily he didn't tell us his theory until afterward.

Those aren't better on the re-watch? I knew the twist before seeing any of those.

I can usually spot the twist pretty early if it's fairly earned.

Otherwise it's artificial suspense like a serialized cliffhanger. Comic books and soap operas preying on your impulse to hear a complete lie to keep you coming back to buy books and laundry powders.

Most popular entertainment is pretty plot driven though, so it lives and dies on those points, so sad...
