Master 焦建国 shared a lot on these clips! You have to know Chinese to understand his detailed explanations!

Damn! Tremendous stuff!

This is probably the best old guy I have seen doing applied MA: Every move makes sense, every move is effective. I don't think I have ever seen better combative use of stances, and his direction changes are masterly.

IMHO, he is demonstrating the essence of applied CMA: Enter; deliver a serious spanking from ultra-close range and unusual angles (preferably while the guy is trapped, crossed, closed down or off-balanced); and don't finish until he is on the deck. These clips really repay study.

Very inspirational to watch an old guy doing stuff this good - rather than simply pushing a hopping student. Watching all the crap coming out of China masquerading as "TCMA combative applications" on YouTube I am really glad to see this level of quality still exists.

But what is he doing? Some kind of Xinyi?

Anyway, thanks for posting.

On his blog, there are clips of him playing Xingyi, Bagua, Taiji, Bafan Shou and something called "Zhang style 72 deadly hands short boxing" (not sure if my translation is the best), so it really depends which ones you watched.

Zhang's 72 Deadly Hands Short Boxing? Sounds like something straight out of Shaw Brothers... That old man is pretty awesome.. Those apps were very close tight and efficient. Me likey!

Frank:

So where is his blog?

Adam:

What style/teacher are you talking? I never saw anything near this good in Chen or Hulei villages.

Hi Andy,

The blog link is in Taijikid's second post. The videos it contains are the same as those of the video page, I just mentioned the blog because I went there first, trying to find more info. The guy's name is Jiao Jianguo, and the first row of clips in the video page is from Zhang style short boxing, or Zhang style 72 deadly hands short boxing.

The blog also mentions cotton sheet boxing. Isn't this related to shaolin ?

As for the Chang family ancestors learned from whom? Mystery monk from now no one can say. But one thing is for sure, the stone house esoteric cotton sheets boxing name for hundreds of years, will continue to call it.

Very interesting stuff.
