Tai Chi Workshops with Wu Style Tai Chi Teacher Shen Tiegen

Shen Tiegen began his study of martial arts with shuaijiao (grappling) at the age of seven. At the age of 15 he began his study of Ten Animals Six Harmonies Xinyi Quan while continuing to study shuaijiao. In his early twenties, in addition to his Xinyi training, he was exposed to Ge Dou, shuaijiao and the qinna of the Chinese military system. In 1980, at the age of 25, Shen Tiegen was introduced to Qian Caoqun, a noted disciple of Wu style grandmaster Ma Yueliang, and began training in the Wu Jianquan Style Taijiquan (tai chi). He became a disciple of Qian Caoqun and was later also introduced to Ma Yueliang and studied at the home of Ma Yueliang and his wife, Wu Yinghua (daughter of Wu style founder Wu Jianquan). He trained with them for 16 years until the passing of Wu Yinghua. Mr. Shen has practiced with police, military and martial artists from many styles throughout the United States and Europe. He is recognized in Wu circles in Shanghai as one of the top practitioners of fighting skill and push hands.

To anyone interested,

Just off the phone with Mr. Shen. He will only be in the states for two weeks this trip. He has a seminar he will be giving in Belgium for the month of August with our Taiji brother Fred. See http://blog.dongfang.be/

However, he was granted a one year multiple entry visa to the states. So if anyone wishes to put together a seminar for him to teach please contact Gregory or me to discuss particulars.

Thanks!

His videos with DPG/Danny were the closet thing to what I'd call pure taiji applications in san shou. Softness, yielding, total control at first touch. Just a random RumSoakedFister's opinion.

I'd love too.

Can I get an idea of how many people would be interested in the bay area?

You can post here or PM me.

Being unemployed makes it hard to sponsor one these right now.

But let me know and I'll see what I can work out.

I just got word that Shen's classes in Arkansas are filling up fast.

I hear he's picked up a large following out there.

If you're in the area be sure to check it out!

Just got word he did a big demo out there and went through most of this system and did lot of applications.

At one point someone asked how he 'd fight multiple opponents and had 4 big guys attack him and guys were on the floor in seconds, without anyone getting hurt.

It turns out that there was a Wu school in the area so you can imagine what it must be like for those guys to train with Shen. I have a feeling he'll be in the States a lot more in the future.
