What type of Qi Gong do you practice?

Postby Franklin on Wed Jul 01, 2009 7:55 pm

just wondering...

right now my practice is concentrating on a seated dao yin set and meditation
and also doing some zhan zhuang

of course in addition to my martial arts training 8-)

so what type of stuff are people into...

I like to think I'm kind of always doing qi gong at this stage...but as far as sets go, I mostly just do our bagua ba duan jin and circle walking. Depending on how I'm feeling I'll do some standing and five element stuff with sounds and imagery and all that.

I used to practice the taiji "primordial qigong" set, and would actually like to find a video of it so that I can start doing it again...it's a great set, but I've forgotten a little of how the begininig goes and a couple of transitions.

My old teacher who I was in the "teacher training" program with is hugely into qigong so I learned a lot and lots of variations and theory on it...for which I'm very thankful. I find it incredibly efficacious and if I was smart and didn't have any bad habits to counterbalance it I'd probably live a very long and healthy life.

Best,

S

Wu style 5 elements and 8 methods plus I guess Tai chi is Qi Gong anyway.

Also some Fut gar Qi Gong sets plus Hung Gar Iron Wire Set.
( But some Hung Gar and some Fut Gar sets include Qi Gong as part of them as well.)

zhan zhuang, daoyin set (which i always thought of as more stretching), and i guess drilling my taiji could be considered qigong.

Right now I do a specific type of zhan zhuang that is supposed to enable one to engage adrenaline in an instant for ridiculous power.

I do seated meditation for the level 1 of John Chang's Mo Pai Lei Shan Do.

Yiquan's taming the tiger exercise.
"I kew evibady. I squeegee him - like dis. STAND me?"
I'm always careful to lift the seat when IP

Ba Duan Jin. I started doing the Chinese Health Qigong Association version, but as of late I have been taught the Shaolin version, which has similarities but some differences too (and is a heck of a lot more demanding IMO!).

I use to do Liu Zi Jue, but I had trouble with the sounds so I stopped it and just concentrated on Ba Duan Jin.

I've always wanted to learn that iron wire set. I've heard it's really good for what it does.

Standing and the foundation exercises we do in class. Not sure which of them are formally qigong, though. Also have a bunch of qigong exercises I've picked up over the years, but I don't do most of them routinely any more.
