SAMBO

Discussion on the three big Chinese internals, Yiquan, Bajiquan, Piguazhang and other similar styles.

SAMBO

Postby jjy5016 on Wed Jun 24, 2009 10:29 am

I must be going through a mid - life crisis.

Thinking of joining up at a local SAMBO / MMA class to see what it's like.

The instructor is Vladislav Koulikov.

Anyone have experience with him or any other combat SAMBO training?

LOL

My apparent mid-life crisis has found me at a BJJ/MMA gym as well.

Have fun!

You guys have funny ideas about Mid Life crisis...
I bought a Fireblade and started thinking about having sex with my (university fencing) patient....yummy..so sad.

That's more of a cure for the desire to get married than a mid life crisis.

I couldn't find too many specifics on what SAMBO consists of. Striking, takedowns, grappling etc? What's the specialty?

Looks like the combat sambo is a combination of striking, throws and ground work.

Sambo is not judo with more leg locks. Google it and you will find out that it has influences from many styles. Although Judo plays a major role in it. Also there are three "styles" of sambo Sport, Combat (Fedor) and Freestyle. JJy5016 we meet awhile back in manhattan when you were doing Yiquan and I was doing Chen Panling Taji, You allowed to come in a sit in on one of your classes in chinatown. I am presently a student at ny combat sambo, you should come by if you are still in the city. The website is nycombatsambo.com .Vladislav Koulikov is a great teacher by the way, if you do decide to go there.

if you are in New York I can recomand Reilly Bodycomb at Remix Dojo also!
Sambo is more of a mix of styles, but as I see the major ones are wrestling and judo. But they have some uniqe stuff that BJJ picked up in the way.

Sorry but I don't remember you Tao. So do you like SAMBO so much that you've given up on taiji or have you just added it to your repertoire? Also, it seems that because of the heavy grappling influence that without a training partner there isn't much that one can train on his own. I wouldn't mind practicing choking out my wife a couple of times a day..... Never took judo before and the last time I wrestled was in high school. Are there lots of solo drills to do?
