Had a private class with Sifu Mark Cheng today

Postby Juan on Mon Jun 15, 2009 3:52 pm

It had been a while since I had a private class with Sifu Cheng and am so glad I started again. He is a freaking awesome and well rounded martial artists. See, my regular Taiji teacher is solely Taiji and my Muay Thai trainers are solely Muay Thai, but Sifu Cheng is so well rounded that he actually helps me fit and mesh both arts together. I told him that I wanted to work on the grappling aspects of Taiji, so today we worked on several different things from the Muay Thai clinch (i.e. using brush knee and diagonal flying as throws from the MT clinch). We also did some push hands. Overall it was a fantastic class. Sifu Cheng is a great example of the benefits of cross training in arts.

All ACSCA members are cross trainers with "no style boundary". Mark holds a 3rd degree black belt from ACSCA.

Sifu Wang,

What does ACSCA stand for? But yeah, he is great...he is knowledgeable in so many arts. I can only afford half-hour class with him (which he usually graciously extends for the same price) but I learn alot in that half hour.

"he's got a lot to offer a student in your position" Tom, I totally agree

Nice, I've been meaning to check him out one of these days... I've seen his group doing KB stuff at a park in Santa Monica a few times. Do you know if he teaches his shuaijiao publicly, or only in privates?

Not sure either. He has a public Taiji class on Saturdays in Santa Monica, but I don't know about his SC. Contact him tho, he is well worth it.
