Where to Buy 'Nautical Rope' in States???

Postby MaartenSFS on Mon Nov 27, 2017 5:11 pm

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone can tell me where one can buy the thick rope used on ships in America. I think that the one I'm using here in China is made of hemp. If the thickness is almost the same as a wrist, that would be perfect. If you caught my video on rope-shaking, you would know that it is an integral part of my training. How much does it cost per metre? Thanks in advance!

This is probably what you're looking for:

If you want something you can leave outside, you probably want something more like a polypropylene or nylon rope. There are lots of good, readily available options sold as "battle ropes", but they tend to be a bit pricey. Once you figure out a location, you can do some research on types of rope to find one that fits your needs and then see if there's a local supplier that can sell it to you, but the above link is a good baseline, and it almost certainly won't be less than that, as far as I know...

I can't open the link in China, but knowing that there are options at Home Depot is a good sign. Probably at Menard's as well. Could you tell me the price for the 50 foot Manila rope? (I could read that in the link)

Thanks a lot! That will save me shipping weight!

I don't know about this, but shipyards/dockyards might have "leftover" ropes laying around maybe they can spare you a bit

Hey, thanks for the replies. That's not bad at all. No need to ship my rope halfway across the world. To any of you that haven't tried rope-shaking; go do it now! It's great! ;D
